Tudor - Black Bay 54 - 2023

The Black Bay 54 is Tudor's compact-cased reinterpretation of its 1958 Submariner heritage — a 39mm diver introduced in 2018 that sits at the historically correct mid-century scale, distinct from the 41mm standard Black Bay. Reference 79000N pairs that vintage-leaning case with a fully matte black dial and matching black bezel insert.

The 39mm stainless steel case is brushed across the top surfaces and polished along the chamfered flanks, with the small unguarded crown that signals the model's mid-century reference point. A unidirectional rotating bezel carries a black anodised aluminium insert with 60-minute graduations, and a domed sapphire crystal sits flush above. The Oyster-style construction is water resistant to 200 metres.

The matte black dial carries applied gilt-toned hour markers and snowflake hands filled with luminescent material, the classic Tudor diver signature. There is no date complication — a deliberate omission that preserves the dial's symmetry.

Calibre MT5402 is Tudor's in-house Manufacture movement, self-winding with a bidirectional rotor, COSC-certified chronometer and a seventy-hour power reserve. The free-sprung balance is held by a traversing bridge — a construction more commonly seen on movements priced several times higher.

Presented on a brushed stainless steel rivet bracelet — the vintage-pattern construction with exposed link rivets along the outer edges — fitted with a folding deployant clasp.

Good condition from 2023 means visible signs of wear consistent with regular use — surface marks on the case, bracelet and bezel are to be expected, with no significant damage. Complete as a full set with original box and papers dated September 2023.

The Black Bay 58 is widely regarded as Tudor's most considered diver — a watch sized, finished and powered to the standard of a brand operating well above its price point.
