Purists often prefer the no-date for its perfect visual balance and slightly slimmer case profile, whilst practical wearers appreciate the everyday functionality of the date complication.

Both models share the same legendary 300-metre water resistance, Cerachrom bezel, and robust Oyster case. The no-date Submariner also tends to be slightly more affordable in the pre-owned market, making it an excellent entry point into Submariner ownership.

Absolutely. The Rolex Submariner was built for serious diving, and a properly maintained pre-owned model is every bit as capable as a new one. However, we always recommend having the gaskets and seals checked before taking any pre-owned watch underwater, regardless of age. Our serviced Submariner models undergo pressure testing to verify their water resistance, and we can arrange additional testing if you plan to use yours for diving. The Submariner's 300-metre rating means it's more than capable of recreational diving—most divers never exceed 40 metres. That said, many Submariner owners never get theirs wet, and that's perfectly fine too. It's a tool watch that's equally at home as a daily wearer.

Investment potential varies significantly across Submariner references. Vintage models from the 1950s through 1980s, particularly "gilt dial" examples and early references like the 5513 or 1680, have shown remarkable appreciation. Among modern Submariners, the discontinued references tend to perform well—the previous-generation 116610LN and 116610LV (the "Hulk" with its green dial and bezel) have already appreciated since being discontinued.

The newer 41mm references (126610 series) are still establishing their market position. Ultimately, the best investment is the Submariner that speaks to you personally.
