Rolex Daytona 6239
Anyone who knows anything about motor racing will undoubtedly have heard of the Newman/Haas racing team famed for their exploits on the American Indy Car Series. This team was set up by the Actor Paul Newman and his friend Gene Haas who now owns an up and coming F1 stable of cars in Europe, and anyone who knows anything about watches knows of the Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona ref 6239.
This was the watch bought for Newman by his wife Joanne who had the caseback of his personal watch inscribed with the wording “Love, Joanne. Drive slowly”. Probably a note of sarcasm here as Newman was himself a racing driver of some renown.
Newmans own Daytona 6239 sold at Auction for $17.78 Million but you can possess your very own Daytona 6239 at a fraction of the price.
The watch on offer at Pride & Pinion was made in 1969 and as this model was only produced between 1963 and 1969 this makes it one of the last of the production line. Resplendent in its original condition 37mm steel case with 300 Bezel and Oyster Bracelet, this rare Tropical dial example has the famous 727 Calibre manual movement covered by its unmarked plexi glass shield.
On offer at 125,000 GBPs this piece of horological history will fast become the favourite in the collection of its new owner.
