The timepiece is powered by IWC's Calibre 69370 automatic chronograph movement, which provides a 46 hour power reserve.
This watch comes as part of a full set with box, papers, instructions and a copy of the original purchase receipt included, and is number 39/77.
The IWC Ingenieur was introduced in 1954, and varied massively from other models in the IWC lineup, as it was created with scientists and technicians in mind, giving them water resistance, antimagnetic properties and superb precision. The first Ingenieur models had their movements housed inside a soft iron cage, providing 16 times the necessary resistance to magnetism than was required by the Swiss norms at the time.
Despite being aimed at professionals, the Ingenieur was often regarded as a classical watch. That was until the 1976, when legendary designer Gerald Genta redesigned the watch. However, due to the quartz crisis, the Ingenieur did not achieve high sales figures, with only 1000 pieces selling. As a result, the 1976 Ingenieur is a highly collectible piece, fetching very high prices nowadays.
